My agency sells this FCC file for over $1,000. A disabled vet radio
amateur asked if the file is available online anywhere. Does anyone
know? He checked ARRL and they don't have it. Reply here or

Subject: Problems with Kenwood TH-78A Modifications
To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
Hi All,
I just bought a new TH-78A and tried to do the "Crossband Repeater" and
"Beyond Caps/Mars Modifications".
After trying different diode/wire configurations I ended up with:
D3,D4, and W2 removed.
Now I can
RX 50-180MHz, TX 136-180MHz, (VHF)
RX 300-400MHz (VHF)
RX 400-512MHz, TX 40-512MHZ (UHF)
But still, I can not receive from 800 to 950 MHz.
Is this feature not available anymore? Can anybody verify this?
I also tried earlier suggested modifications like
D3,D4 and W1 removed, and
D4,D5 removed
both gave me only extended receive with no extended transmit.
Another curiosity: My manual describes the crossband repeater function
for the standard configuration (No diode/wire removed).
A second question: Can someone verify whether the only difference between
a TH-78A (American version) and TH-78E (European version) is that in the
"E" version D2 is removed? Do I need an extra tone module for 1750Hz in
order to get into European repeaters or is this a done deal after removing
D2?
Thanks a lot in advance,
Arne

The Senator is a real neat guy. Still loves to talk on the radio almost every
day; spends most of his time on the YL nets.
